The designers from the BLOK company envisaged the installation of two portals and a pedestrian corridor suspended on load-bearing steel chains. The projected width of the pedestrian corridor is 160 cm, which corresponds to the full width of the pedestrian path with two pedestrian lanes. The bridge over the Krka canyon that will connect the two fortifications will be 462,5 m long, so it will be the second in Europe in terms of the length of the free span of load-bearing ropes and the third in total pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. And the banks of the river Krka will soon be connected at another place, where almost four centuries ago in the Candian War the bridge connecting the medieval fortifications Nečven and Trošenj, five hundred meters away by air, was destroyed. It is a unique tourist attraction, the suspension pedestrian bridge Nečven – Trošenj over the canyon of the river Krka. “For many years, the Krka National Park has been investing in the visitor infrastructure of the middle and upper reaches of the Krka in order to encourage the development of the surrounding area through sustainable visits. The results of this work are visible both in a number of edited visitor contents and in statistical indicators on the number of visitors. I am sure that this pedestrian bridge is the crown of investments in projects that make this space attractive and encourage its development. It will represent the turning point after which the development of the area of Promina and Kistanje, but also the cities of Drniš and Knin and the municipality of Ervenik, will certainly get a new pace. However, when planning and designing, we took special care not to jeopardize the most valuable reason why Krka is protected as a national park – the exceptional natural values that we care about. So this bridge will be a visitor attraction, with a fascinating view of the Krka canyon and fortifications Nečven and Trošenj, without in any way burdening the underlying phenomenon, because the project does not direct visitors to the canyon, but staying on its edges.”, Said the director of the Public Institution” National Park Krka “mr. sc. Krešimir Šakić. The river Krka is bridged in four places: at the entrance to the royal Knin, not far from its source at the foot of Krčići, across the waters of Brljan, next to which cherries bloom, at Roški slap, where the bridge has long connected river banks and where Krka first touches sea, the blue Skradinski bridge. “The presented solutions of the bridge and its dimensions are based on the conceptual design, which will need to be changed in certain details according to the established special conditions during the development of the conceptual design. According to the load-bearing concept, steel load-bearing ropes with a free span of 462,5 m are suspended on portals 5 m high, with a vertical deflection in the middle of the 20 m sprocket span. Steel load-bearing ropes are left over the portal and anchored in anchor blocks at a distance of 6 m behind the portal. The load-bearing assembly of the bridge, ie the load-bearing sprocket, consists of 2 + 2 longitudinal ropes made of high-grade steel with a cross-section of Ø 60 mm. The conceptual design provided for reinforced concrete portals lined with stone cladding, while the established special conditions required steel portals. In the middle of the bridge, a pedestrian corridor is located at a height of 140 m above the river Krka”, Explained the technical details of the bridge Hrvoje Vukić, director of the project office BLOK doo The bridge is designed to combine the functions of a footpath and a lookout point and offer an immediate experience of the landscape and untouched nature. Due to the better fit into the landscape, a relatively light construction of the suspension pedestrian bridge was imposed as the optimal solution. The upper course of the river Krka has remained intact since the creation of pristine beauty, so as such we want to show it to visitors who choose an active vacation in direct contact with nature. The suspension bridge will fill those who will cross it with a breath of adrenaline, but it will also revive the traditional service activities of the local population and launch new ones, which will improve the socio-economic and demographic picture of the area. The upper course of the Krka River deserves such an attraction, as a kind of “icing on the cake” of the efforts of the Krka National Park in recent years to raise the tourist product.
FOLLOWING his clearance in London today, the judge in the John Downey case ruled that so-called ‘On The Runs’ had been given a guarantee by the British government that they would not face prosecution. It was part of a deal between the British and Sinn Fein during the peace process.Mr Justice Sweeney said: “When the defendant received his [2007 assurance] letter he was entitled to and did believe that it was the product of careful and competent further work, and that there had been a genuine and correct change of mind about him – particularly given that he was a supporter of the peace process. “However, that assurance was wholly wrong… thus, as the prosecution conceded, the defendant was wholly misled.“Clearly, and notwithstanding [the Good Friday Agreement], the public interest in ensuring that those who are accused of serious crime should be tried is a very strong one with the plight of the victims and their families firmly in mind.“However, in the very particular circumstances of this case it seems to me that it is very significantly outweighed in the balancing exercise by the overlapping public interests in ensuring that executive misconduct does not undermine public confidence in the criminal justice system and bring it into disrepute, and the public interest in holding officials of the state to promises they have made in full understanding of what is involved in the bargain.“Hence I have concluded that this is one of those rare cases in which, in the particular circumstances, it offends the court’s sense of justice and propriety to be asked to try the defendant.”The Hyde Park attack is one of the most significant unsolved IRA bombings of The Troubles. One other person was convicted in relation to the deaths before being later cleared on appeal. The bomb that Mr Downey was accused of planting was the first of two that day in London and he was allegedly linked to the attack by fingerprints found on a parking ticket bought for the car used to transport the bomb.In the second explosion, less than two hours later, seven Royal Green Jackets bandsmen in a Regent’s Park bandstand were killed.JOHN DOWNEY: JUDGE SAID HE HAD GUARANTEE was last modified: February 25th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:John Downeyjudgement
